Telemarketers
The telemarketers - they seem to know when I am sleeping. They make me think I am in hell. Some of them do not take NO for an answer. I will get revenge.
One day, my phone rang. I was across the room, and it's not uncommon for Tim to have answered it for me if he is around. I could only hear one side of the conversation, and it went like this:
Hello?
...(pause)
...a decision maker? Well I picked up the phone, that was a pretty good decision, don't you think?
...(pause)
Dude. Relax that was a joke.
...(pause)
Nope. Not interested. thank you--goodbye.
When I asked, he said that the guy really just sort of sounded confused; like his Telemarketer's Bible had no entry on how to respond to customers saying something like Tim had said to him.
I loathe telemarketing. It is the single most irritating form of invasion of my privacy. I keep trying to come up with innovative ways to follow Tim's lead and say something that shocks the poor person on the other end so badly that they simply do not know how to reply.
This morning I got a call from "The gaming fish and wildlife conservation", or something to that effect, wanting me to take a survey. I had only been asleep about two hours and I was pretty exhausted. I told them it was really not a good time and when she asked me what would be a good time I told her I would prefer not to be called again.
While I was laying there trying to fall back asleep, I thought of a few things; primarily what I COULD have said.
"How did you get this number? This is supposed to be a secure line; it is intended for use only by the FBI strictly for a ransom negotiation in progress. I need to speak with your supervisor, please." I wonder if I will remember that next time I get one of those calls? I think what irritated me most about the call this morning is, unlike most surveys-- she never did ask me if i had the time to take it.
I honestly don't know where these people would acquire unpublished phone numbers. I do not put my phone number on forms (on line etc). I do know that when Radio Shack asks for a phone number, I am not so lucky because Tim gives them my number every time. He claims this is because he remembers mine better than his own. I think his motive is more like he knows they will sell it to other marketing companies.
