[but don't leave anything beind]

We've all invited our friends to 'Make yourself at home'. Some of them do just that.

My friend takes the 'mi casa es su casa' cliche to a new level.

One morning I get off work a little earlier than normal; and ... go home. Nothing too surprising so far, right? Wait, it gets better. I get home and - there is someone in my house. I can hear the shower running. I am not sure what to think at this point, but the house seems otherwise pretty undisturbed; so I decide to make coffee and check my email.

As the coffee is brewing I let the dog out in the back yard; and pick up a few beer cans that someone left scattered around the deck and jacuzzi. After everything in the back yard appeared more normal I went back inside.

At this point, an attractive woman comes out of one of the back rooms, drying her hair with a towel. I have no idea who this person is, or why she is in my house. Now, I am a fairly rational person. I don't know this woman. She is in my house. So far, I can only guess that Tim must be involved; and nothing more. She introduces herself as I pour her a cup of coffee, and get one for myself. I get my cup of coffe, and sign on to check email, when suddenly, it pops up on the screen:

Tim: dude. i almost forgot.

(Now, I've already met Shawna, and she is drinking coffee and reading, of all things, the financial section of the paper. Am I going to let him know this? Not on your life--this has potential for amusement.)

Me: well don't leave me hanging all day ?

Tim: you at home?

Me: Yes. -

Tim: I sort of had to leave in a hurry this morning and there is someone in your house... only I sort of told her it was MY house.

After finishing her cup of coffee, Shawna says something along the lines of how 'Tim must be a really good friend to let you hang out and crash at his place the way he does.' I have no response to this, other than to grin and agree with her. A guy like that is definately a good friend. With that, Shawna announces that she must be going so she can change clothes and go to work. I decide to get the rest of the story from Tim, since it would be sort of rude to ask Shawna such questions. Afterall, this isn't even my house, right?

They met at a party one of the guys was having. Shawna is a sister of a girlfriend of one of the guys Tim knows from work. I am not sure of what conversation took place between them meeting and the point she decided to leave the party with him, however; I am sure I've over-heard him having similar conversations with other women.

Tim explained that his small aparment is usually good enough for most of the women he meets; however, he felt Shawna was too classy and she would be unimpressed with his choice of living space. Then he remembered that I was working, so he decided that "she would probably feel more comfortable in my place, because it's nice and all". He further explained that he overslept and rushed out the door, without thinking that I would actually be coming home at some point.

He closes this conversation by thanking me for covering for him, and he signs off.
