Mi Perro Tiene Miedo del Todo
(My Dog is a Coward)
Studies have shown that large doses of Daytime Television might cure insomnia. Avoid contact with barking dogs while under this treatment...
I was sleeping on the couch, and finally for once sleeping well. I must have been watching something on TV; and as some of you know, daytime television is a great solution for insomnia. Now, if the same type of crap was on at night, we wouldn't need to resort to medicines to make us sleep.
I think that I was even dreaming, but I cannot remember many details of the dream other than I was walking around the park looking at the river. There was something shiney in the grass on the other bank, and I was wondering what it was. Hmm...there is a dog barking somewhere. Oh hey, that is not part of the dream; its MY DOG that is barking, so maybe it would be a good idea to wake up.
The dog was having an absolute fit at the window; so I let him out. He ran immediately to a cluster of trees where two squirrels were chasing each other up around down and jumping across to the next tree. You could even hear them chattering. They may have been playing but they sounded angry; as if maybe one had stolen something that belonged to the other.
One of them ended up on the ground and the dog decided to chase him. The squirrel RAN TOWARDS the dog rather than away from him, chattering loudly and the dog turned and ran back towards me. COWARD! If anybody saw that, I thought, I will be the laugh of the entire community. My dog weighs about fifty pounds; average squirrel: around--I guess five at the most? I cannot believe my dog could be such a wimp!
The dog managed to make it to the safety zone, behind me standing on the deck. The squirrel stopped in the middle of the yard; and the 2nd squirrel chirped aggressively, calling to his friend to join him. The dog timidly peeks around from behind me as the "attack" squirrel goes back to his business of chasing and being chased.
The dog sees this, and resumes his role of dog. He runs to the edge of the yard and barks at them from the safe distance between ground and tree top. Stupid cowardly dog. I am sure those squirrels were laughing at him.
