There are alternatives to the big blue e.
Watch some Funny Firefox Flicks. Keep in mind that those of you on non-broadband connections… should seriously consider getting one in order to fully appreciate the internet. (these are short movies and will take some time to download otherwise).
Here is a link directly to the page of the one I liked best so far: Wheee!.

My DirectTV-DVR (DTVTDVR) died– or at least I suspect that it was dying. It started to freeze, skip and be jumpy. A few days later, it began rebooting (intermittently) — it would freeze, then display a black screen that said Powering on … this may take a while. It would remain like this for several minutes and finally come back on. Just to do the whole thing again. Bastards.
So, in an effort to test the theory that the hard drive was full, I made a list of the stuff I had saved on that I know I will lose so I plan to re-record (eventually). Many of the items I recorded – planning to watch them later (that is what TiVo is for after all) A number of the items are things Tim had recorded. He came over this evening to pull what he can from the TiVo – to his computer to compress to Mpg movie format – and later burn DVDs (this was successful).
I found the “Protection Plan” offered by the place where I purchased the DTVTDVR. (Typically I do not buy the extended warranty, but when I purchased the DTVTDVR it was 3x more expensive than they are now so that particular time I got the extended warranty for 60 more bucks).
We took it to the evil nameless place. At the Service Counter, the guy greeted me. I put the DTVTDVR on the counter and explained its symptom(s) and stated that I was sure the hard drive was failing. He typed all of this information into the computer and after about ten minutes, he looks at me and says, “OK that will take about 2-3 weeks.”
I just stood there looking at him, thinking, “Dude, What the Hell?” Instead, I opened my mouth to speak, and Tim said, “Two to THREE WEEKS? Is there a loaner or anything? How in the hell am I supposed to watch TV? Are you kidding?” The guy just shrugged.
I do have an extra DirecTV receiver. It doesn’t have Tivo but I have one. So I was resigned to just accept this event as another crappy thing that has happened, and it really isn’t THAT important in the grand scale of things. I said “Go over to Best Buy, I’m just going to buy a new one. Then when these idiots give me the other one back I’ll have two DVRs. They are only about $100 bucks now anyway. So I did.

If you are feeling artistic… draw on me This is a flash-based “sketch pad”, complete with a cartoon rendering of my head and shoulders (currently pictured BALD).
If you want to see one of the other saved images I had one uploaded to the server [these files are currently missing--I'm working on fixing the issue]. Since it is still in its early stages, this script does not allow you to SAVE your masterpiece to the server (yet), but you can capture the screen and email the images to me if you’d like. (If you have no idea how to capture and save a screen image, email me!)
Soon, I’ll add a gallery of submitted images, and eventually the save to server script might actually work. (12 April – Deb sent a screenshot of her creation. I hope to add a few more in the next few days).
Coming soon Eventually… Future development also involves the ability to change brush widths and paint colors. (giddyup!) If you have other ideas for flash-based projects please let me know. I hope to update some of the existing items (such as peroisms)!
SADLY, many of these images are missing at this time. I am working on finding the files to re-upload them
