Happy 2009
Having the right to make choices is a good thing. I made a few choices for next year:I chose to opt-out of making a resolution list. I usually don't keep most of them anyway. I have become a bit soft and dough-ie around the belly area. That is my only promise-to-self I have made. I did not put it in writing.
I also chose to opt-out of the annual Celebrity Death Pool this year. Last year, everyone on my list survived. I thought to myself... "ya know... it might be interesting to see what happens to the same group of people if I don't change it at all." Morbid? Why, yes, it is a morbid "game". We didn't make it up, we just make a list and (typically, lose) $20 at the end of the year (paid to the winner with the most points based on whichever famous people were LOST during the year.)
I would like to be able to choose not to get headaches, and to be able to sleep instead. I am HOPING for a year of at least six hours of sleep a night, without the a single headache to disrupt it.
Tonight, I am choosing to drink to that. (responsibly, as always).
Let the countdown begin.

As This Year Ends (A really, really brief review of the Holiday)
This was one of the gifts I received this year. Animated Santa on a Chopper. With a press of the button, the music begins (with motorcycle revving sound added in). "Get your motor runnin... (Santa starts to "dance" from his seated position on the bike to the music) Head out on the highway... " Funny stuff.
I also received this book, Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. I watch this show on FoodTV, and want to drive across the country and eat at the places featured on the show.I love food. We cooked (and consumed) a LOT of it. Soups were the main focus Christmas Eve, and all three types were a hit. Christmas morning I made breakfast and Christmas dinner consisted of Ham (and all of the things that go well with a Ham). Way too much food. We woke up the next day and there was a request to make the same breakfast, so I did.
We left early that afternoon, and when I got home late yesterday afternoon, the only thing I ate (for dinner) was fruit. Two Mandarine (Tangerines) and an apple. This morning I had a five-grain oatmeal (non-instant) and coffee (black, which is how I typically drink it).

(Holiday Season + Crap Economy) - (Work - Sleep) = X
Greetings. The Holiday Snowy Header is up!This year is a perfect year to get back to basics and celebrate the holidays in a more basic way. There will not be a huge mountain of gifts this year. Even at work we are foregoing the "Christmas Party" and "Secret Santa" (which I never enjoyed anyway and thought was crap). Instead we are going to each bring a dish and we will eat - and there is no gift exchange.
At home, we are each giving / receiving ONE gift, having done the "pick a name from a hat" thing. This surely beats the hell out of buying each person in the family a 20-30 or 50 dollar gift. Nothing over the top.
I have to work today... I want a vacation. (I always want a vacation, don't I?)
