On the morning of September 12, 2001
From an e-mail I sent to my co-workers, friends and family.

I sit in shock and disbelief this week as the TV news continues to reveal the grim details of Tuesday's terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, DC.

It is difficult for any of us to fathom the senseless death of thousands of innocents, many of whom were our friends, relatives and neighbors.

In President Bush's address last night, he stated, "These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed. Our country is strong. A great people has been moved to defend a great nation . . . These acts shattered steel but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve."

I believe that as a nation, we can lend assistance to the victims, rescue workers and firefighters. Please help by organizing fund drives and blood drives in your area to help those in need.

We must stand together in support of the people of the United States as this tragedy unfolds. This is a horrific incident that has touched us all, and I want us to unite to help restore the strength of our nation and our people.

This attack has shaken us all and I join with you in mourning and praying today.

Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.
